Our story
Technology should bring us closer, not leave us behind.
What kapwa meansThe meaning of kapwa
kapwaFilipino · nounThe shared self. We are bound up in one another.
Kapwa means seeing yourself in the people around you, and knowing that no one moves forward alone.
Why it matters
As more of everyday life moves online, learning to use technology can become a way to stay connected to the people and opportunities around us. Too many older adults are left to figure it out alone.

More appointments, results and prescriptions now begin on a screen.

Grandchildren grow up across video calls and photo albums online.

Banks, utilities and benefits keep moving their counters online.

Knowing which messages to trust takes confidence and practice.
Where we begin
Technology has changed how we communicate, access healthcare, manage our daily lives, and stay connected to the people we love.
But not everyone has been given the same opportunity to keep up.
The idea for Kapwa Foundation grew from years of experience at the intersection of caregiving and technology—and a growing realization that even the most useful tools can leave people behind when they don’t have the confidence, guidance, or support to use them.
Through our work with caregivers, older adults, and families, we began to see an opportunity: technology education could become a meaningful form of care.
That belief became personal through our own family’s experiences, including helping an aging parent navigate health challenges and everyday technology.
Sometimes the most important innovation isn’t another application. It’s having someone beside you, patiently showing you how to use what already exists.
That’s why we’re building Kapwa Foundation.
Rooted in the Filipino concept of kapwa—our shared humanity—we envision a community where older adults can learn at their own pace, caregivers and families feel better supported, and technology becomes a bridge rather than a barrier.
We’re beginning in Union City and the Bay Area, with a vision that can eventually extend to communities everywhere.
Together, Forward.
